Places that we think activate the energising emotions of travel, and have enough warmth, charm, and quirkiness to inspire a wry smile. All 3 of our properties can be reached within 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne. Each home features its own individual character and all are completely self-contained. Bootmakers Cottage Birregurra, is a delightful heritage cottage, named in honour of bootmaker and saddler James Townsend who first built the simple dwelling along with a shop and stables around 1864. Like the township in which it proudly sits, Bootmakers Cottage is rich in history and character, and has been lovingly restored to evoke the simple and warm pleasures of Victoria’s pioneering past.

Otways Loft is the ultimate in unique stays – a secluded hand-built tree-house like no other, nestled amongst the treetops of Forrest. It’s the kind of place you can truly escape and hide away from your everyday.
Otways Loft is full of character, a labour of love for the original owner who lived in a tin shed onsite for over five years while he built her in the 80’s. A curious creation of hand-built raw & recycled material, on an eclectic framework of locally felled Mountain Ash tree poles, spanning up to three stories high. If all you ever wanted as a child was your very own treehouse, then we are sure that Otways Loft will make all your dreams come true.

Welcome to the Great Age of Steam… a time when life was simpler, and certainly slower. You’ve carefully packed a leather trunk, perhaps with some playing cards and homemade slice for the journey, snapped its brass clips shut, donned your Sunday best, and at Flinders Street Station, climbed aboard a steam train filled with a sense of excitement for new adventures that lie ahead.
Steam: Train Carriage is an incredibly unique accommodation offering, with a wonderful past that will appeal to train enthusiasts and history lovers alike. It was built in 1926 at the Newport Railway Workshop in Melbourne as First Class carriage 61 AW and transported travellers throughout regional Victoria. Between 1937 and 1980 it was converted a number of times between first and second class, operating between Melbourne & Sydney, or travel throughout Regional Victoria. In 1983 it was retired to a rail yard in Collingwood – soon afterwards it was sold, and put on a truck from Melbourne to Forrest, which is a small township in the Otway Ranges.
